Hyaluronic Acid is not an 'bad’ acid or an exfoliating acid -

The words ‘acid’ and skincare are often a terrifying mix, however, Hyaluronic Acid molecules are found naturally in our bodies, they have water-attracting and water-binding functions and act as a lubricant and a shock absorber in the eyes, joints and skin.

Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid -

Youthful skin has naturally high levels of Hyaluronic Acid and its unique ability to hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water makes it highly effective at restoring and locking skin moisture. High moisture levels can boost skin elasticity and hydration helping the skin retain its youthful look.

Natural levels of hyaluronic acid diminish as we age, as our bodies produces less, so applying skincare products made with sufficient quantities of quality Hyaluronic Acid can help replenish lost skin moisture levels.

Not all Hyaluronic Acid serums are equal -

The most potent topical options are quality-made serums that contain Hyaluronic Acid listed as "sodium hyaluronate". Sodium Hyaluronate is different to other topically applied skincare ingredients because it's a low molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid that can be more easily absorbed, it also forms an air permeable layer that can seal in moisture creating the appearance of skin fullness.

When choosing skincare products with Hyaluronic Acid look for those that:

- have a high content of ‘sodium hyaluronate’

- are not mixed with nasty ingredients (cheap preservatives, fragrance or drying alcohol) that take away the potential benefits of skin serums or other skincare products.

TIP: The reason why many skincare products do not deliver results is because they are made with either not enough quantities of good ingredients and/or these good ingredients are mixed with other unnecessary if not harmful ingredients - always read the ingredients list, the ones listed at the top are present in higher quantities.

How to apply Hyaluronic Acid serums?

Hyaluronic Acid benefits oily, normal, and acne-prone skin. It can be applied mixed with other skincare products, including: moisturisers, sunscreens, other serums and makeup.

We recommend applying Hyaluronic Acid serum on Clean and Damp skin, and as the first step in your skincare routine.

For Dry Skin or when in dry-air environments  | layer moisturiser on top

In very dry climates, because of its water-attracting and water-binding attributes,Hyaluronic Acid may pull out moisture from your skin’s deeper layers if it is not able find any in the air (humidity), this might make your skin feel dry and tight. So, if your skin is often dry or if you are mostly exposed to very dry air environments (eg.; air-con buildings), we recommend layering a rich moisturiser or cream on top of a Hyaluronic Acid serum, as well as applying a quality natural and organic face oil at night.

For Oily Skin | on its own or after a face oil

Hyaluronic Acid serum might be the perfect combination of light, watery consistency that helps absorb excess oils. We suggest applying a balancing Face Oil at night and following with the serum during the day for a soft and dewy looking skin.
